FIELD: abrasive working, possibly manufacture of envelopes of fuel elements for power producing reactors.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of grinding outer surface of articles of zirconium-niobium alloys by means of abrasive belts for two stages; at first stage grinding till formation of hardened layer with thickness up to 25 micrometers and at next stage grinding till roughness degree Ra equal to 0.4 micrometers or less.

EFFECT: lowered surface roughness, high corrosion strength of article surface of zirconium-niobium alloys, improved efficiency of making such articles.
