FIELD: power engineering; ice detection on power transmission line conductors.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes location of conductor section by means of probing pulses and checkup of parameters related to changes in conditions for their propagation over conductor section on occurrence of ice thereon. Novelty is that conductor section is bounded by high-voltage wave traps; assumed as reference parameter is propagation time of probing pulses from beginning to end of bounded section and vice versa; mean temperature of this conductor section is evaluated, and ice is detected by changes in ice-induced probing pulse propagation time including impact of changes in conductor section length due to temperature variations on reference parameter.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability of ice detection affording periodic heating of conductors in due time; reduced accident probability.
