FIELD: electric power industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of electric power industry for determination of the distance to damage on power lines. According to the method, the position of the damage is determined by changes in the working reflectogram compared to the reference reflectogram. The position of the fault on the main line to the tap point is determined by simultaneous changes in the signals reflected from the end of the main line and from the end of the tap. The position of the fault on the main line after the tap is determined by the change in the signal reflected from the end of the main line and the absence of a change in the signal reflected from the end of the tap. The position of the damage on the tap is determined by the change in the signal reflected from the end of the tap and the absence of a change in the signal reflected from the end of the main line.
EFFECT: improving the accuracy of determining the section on the line with a tap where the damage occurred.
