FIELD: test engineering.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises causing the indenter to strike the surface to be tested and measuring the velocity of the indenter before and after the strike. The indenter strikes the article to be tested at various sites within the working zone, at the periphery of the working zone, and out of the working zone. The velocity ratio is determined for all these zones, and two points where the ratio reaches a maximum and a minimum are found. The hardness at theses points is determined by means of pressing the indenter and by the velocity ratio method. The material hardness within the working zone is judged by the results of measurements of hardness by means of indenter pressing as well as velocity ratio method at these points and by the velocity ration method at the points located within the working zone of the surface.
EFFECT: reduced labor consumption.
