FIELD: production of reduced iron by direct reduction of material containing iron oxide, such as iron ore with the use of carbon-bearing reductants.
SUBSTANCE: charge is fed to the rotary-hearth furnace where it is heated for reduction of iron oxide contained in it to reduced iron followed by melting the reduced iron, cooling the molten reduced iron and unloading it in way of motion of hearth. Furnace is provided with partitions for control of furnace gas flow; at the cooling stage, furnace gas flows in way of motion of hearth which is achieved with the aid of partitions.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency.
