FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and apparatus for producing reduced iron by charging a plurality of raw material particles (2) to produce reduced iron, each containing a carbonaceous reducing agent and iron oxide, in the smelting reduction furnace and the processing of these particles, which allow the introduction of enough heat into particles (2) on the coating under the material to improve the processing efficiency. Particles (2) of the raw material for the production of reduced iron are discharged downward from lower surface (24a) of roof (24) of furnace (10) for smelting reduction for their location on material (18) covering under (16) and carrying out the reduction when they are on this material. Falling particles (2) of the raw material for producing reduced iron are provided with a horizontal velocity component that has a direction coinciding with the direction of motion of hearth (16), and a value exceeding the speed of this movement so as to ensure the rolling of these particles (2) along the covering under material (18) in the direction coinciding with the direction of motion of hearth (16), after they fall onto this material.

EFFECT: method and apparatus are proposed for producing reduced iron.
