FIELD: measuring technique.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises recording spatial distribution of intensity of the infrared radiation of the multi-element high-voltage insulating structure that is under alternating voltage and a steady-state temperature regime, recording intensity of the radiation from the surface electric charges, and determining condition of insulation from the values of mean and root mean square deviation in the recorded distribution of infrared radiation and the value of intensity of the surface charges. The structure is recognized as defective when at least one of the values obtained exceeds the threshold value.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability.
