FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for synthesis of 3-dichloromethylpyridine. Method involves interaction of pyridine with carbon tetrachloride and methanol in the presence of ferrous (II) bromide as a catalyst at temperature 140°C for 6 h in the mole ratio [FeBr2]:[pyridine]:[CCl4]:[methanol] = 1:100:200:200, respectively. The yield of 3-dichloromethylpyridine is 35%, selectivity of reaction is 95-100%, and conversion of pyridine is 36-40%.
EFFECT: improved method of synthesis.
