SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing mono- and difluoro benzyl chlorides by reacting mono- and di- toluene fluorides CH3C6H4F and CH3C6H3F2 with tetrachloromethane and alcohols (MeOH, EtOH, PrnOH) in presence of catalyst FeCl2·4H2O or FeBr2 activated by formamide at 180 °C during 4-8 hours in the molar ratio of [kat]:[HCONH2]:[(di)toluene fluoride]:[CCl4]MeOH]=1-10:1-100:50-200:50-200:10-200.
EFFECT: technical result is high selectivity of the process.
