FIELD: electrical engineering, charging and discharging storage batteries, including sealed ones.
SUBSTANCE: proposed device is used for accelerated charge of NiCd and NiMH storage batteries rated at voltage higher than, equal to, or lower than supply voltage of device with asymmetric current using pulse-width modulated charge-discharge converters. Battery connection to device automatically identifies battery type, charge algorithm and method being chosen to comply with battery type. Device has control circuit depending for its functioning on desired algorithm and power section control circuit. Control unit in the form of single-chip microprocessor generates signals in compliance with charge algorithm to control pulse-width modulated high-frequency converter. Battery functions as load connected to pulse-width modulated charge converter and at the same time as power supply for pulse-width modulated discharge converter. Signal picked off current sensor is supplied to single-chip microprocessor that sets and maintains charge and discharge currents at desired level in compliance with charge algorithm. Signal picked off battery voltage sensor is supplied to single-chip microprocessor to checkup charging process and to determine end-of-charge criteria. Provision is made for introducing standard battery charge with DC current including its pre-milking.
