FIELD: electrical engineering; high-speed charge of batteries, including sealed ones, with asymmetric current and with direct current.

SUBSTANCE: battery connection to device automatically defines type of battery and selects charge algorithm and method complying with battery type. Proposed device designed for charging NiCd and NiMH storage batteries rated at voltage higher than, equal to, or lower than that of power supply has control circuit using specified algorithm and power section control circuit. Control unit in the form of single-chip microprocessor generates signals in compliance with charge algorithm for controlling high-frequency PWM-converters. Storage battery connected to the latter functions as load and as power supply for discharge PWM-converter. Signal picked off current sensor is supplied to single-chip microprocessor that functions to set and maintain charge and discharge currents at desired level in compliance with charge algorithm. Signal picked off battery voltage sensor is applied to single-chip microprocessor for monitoring charging process and evaluating end-of-charge criteria.

EFFECT: enlarged functional capabilities of device due to ability of charging battery with standard direct current including its pre-charge.
