FIELD: electrical engineering; accelerated battery charge (sealed batteries included) with direct current using pulse-width modulated charge-discharge converters.
SUBSTANCE: proposed device is designed to charge NiCd and NiMH sealed storage batteries with DC current including their pre-milking. Battery connection to device automatically identifies its type, charge algorithm and method being determined in compliance with battery type. Device has control circuit depending for its function on desired algorithm and power section control circuit. Control unit in the form of single-chip microprocessor generates signals according to charge algorithm to control pulse-width modulated high-frequency converter. Pulse-width modulated high-frequency converter is loaded into storage battery; the latter also functions as power supply for pulse-width modulated discharge converter. Signal picked off current sensor is supplied to single-chip microprocessor which specifies charge and discharge currents and maintains them at desired level in compliance with charge algorithm. Signal picked off battery voltage sensor is applied to single-chip microprocessor to check charging process and to determine end-of-charge criteria.
