SUBSTANCE: invention relates to cathode protection appliances and methods. Method of controlling excess tolerable density of protective current and its distribution in cathode protection of steel structures located in ground or water, apart from control of corrosion caused by insufficiency of protection current density, comprises using a steel plate placed nearby the surface of protected structure and connected thereto, and controlling excess density and its distribution. Note that the said tape represents a thermally expanded graphite plate placed on the protected structure surface. Note also that swelling and change in colour of the tape is taken into account.

EFFECT: possibility to control excess tolerable protective current density and its distribution.
