FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to plasma engineering, particularly to methods and controlled plasma devices, and can be used in a wide range of engineering solutions. The method of making a plasma radiation source based on erosion type arc discharge involves initiating discharge, formation of plasma discharge in a channel and formation of magnetic field of ponderomotive pressure. Magnetic field is generated such that it is spatially homogeneous until formation of plasma discharge. Plasma discharge starts forming when magnetic field induction reaches a defined value. Simultaneously, amplitude and transient form of the light pulse is controlled and conditions for formation of electromagnetic characteristics of the discharge are varied. The plasma radiation source has a power supply and a radiating plasma generator from a discharge unit and a unit for generating pressing magnetic field. The discharge unit is in form of a tray made from dielectric material with coating with a flat bottom and through-holes in side walls. In the open ends of the tray, there are electrodes connected by a discharge initiator. The unit for generating pressing magnetic field is in form of an electromagnet with a core. The tray is placed in the gap of the electromagnet core. The tray is coated with heat-resistant material based on compounds of easily ionised elements.
EFFECT: invention increases efficiency of the radiation source at relatively low current with prolonged radiation and allows for controlling parameters of radiation sources in a wide range.
