FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method involves exciting TEM waves using a frequency tuned generator in a coaxial resonator through which a mixture is flowing, and measuring amplitude-frequency characteristics of power of the TEM waves. For a mixture with given moisture content parametres in the amplitude-frequency characteristic of power of TEM waves, frequency position of resonance dips of H11 waves on the amplitude-frequency characteristic of TEM waves is measured. Calibration relationship between moisture content and frequency of H11 waves is determined from the position of resonance dips of H11 waves. Moisture content of the analysed mixture is determined from the calibration relationship by measuring position of the frequency resonance dip of the H11 wave of the analysed mixture. The sensor has a section of coaxial line, two socket pieces, and a channel for moving mixture between inner and outer conductors of the coaxial line section. A dielectric bushing is used in the device. A channel is made in the dielectric bushing between two socket pieces. Part of the inner wall of the outer conductor of the coaxial line section lying between the socket pieces is the wall of the channel.

EFFECT: increased accuracy and range for measuring moisture content of different liquid media.
