FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: number of water streams is determined. The length of each tributary in the river network is accurately determined from results of field or some other measurements. A hydrographic map of the river network is drawn. Maturity of water streams in the river network is determined from the ratio of the length of river streams in the entire river network to the length of the river itself. Tributaries are grouped according to the set of values of the length of the tributaries. After that values of the length of tributaries are distributed according to intervals of lengths of tributaries adopted for the river network. The landscape quality of the river network is determined by the ratio of the number of first group tributaries to the number of all tributaries of the river network. Further, the river network is divided into parts according to main tributaries adjacent to the river, starting from the source. After that the number of small tributaries for the river and its main tributaries is counted from the hydrographic map of the river network. Ecological quality of the river and its main tributaries is determined by the ratio of the number of small tributaries to the total number of all water streams.
