FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: proposed device allows using a travelling-wave tube as generator of broadband noise-like microwave signals with low spectrum irregularity and width of frequency band, which reaches 1-2 octaves. To the system containing source of electrons for forming electron stream, broadband electrodynamic system with energy output element, external magnetic periodic focusing system, collector-recuperator with system of electrodes, there introduced is additional excitation section of electron stream, which represents a conducting cylindrical tube with external magnetic periodic focusing system. Additional section is located between electron source and broadband electrodynamic system. Distance between magnets of magnetic periodic focusing system of excitation section and values of their intensity have been chosen so that parametre of magnetic field of periodic focusing system of excitation section can be more than critical value for creation of turbulent condition of the stream.
EFFECT: possibility of tuning the generation from single-frequency and multi-frequency oscillations to noise-like oscillations with spectrum width of up to 2 octaves.
