SUBSTANCE: method for simultaneous qualitative and quantitative determination of carboxylic acids and aldehydes through gas-liquid chromatography in an aqueous medium involves pre-treatment of a sample with a derivatisation agent, where the derivatisation agent used is tributylborate in the presence of concentrated hydrochloric acid. The reaction mixture is treated with a saturated sodium bicarbonate solution, extracted with hexane with water to organic phase ratio of 5:1 in the presence of acetonitrile and then undergoes chromatography.
