FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: radiation is output from a planar optical waveguide through a diffraction grating formed at the output. The diffraction grating has a variable depth of modulation which rises on the length of the grating from the beginning of output of radiation according to the following exponential law: σ(x)=A exp (B x), where σ is depth of modulation [nm]; x is the current coordinate on the length of the grating [mcm]; A is an empirical coefficient, where A=0.01-10 [nm]; B is an empirical coefficient, where B=1-200 [mcm -1].
EFFECT: more uniform distribution of radiation at the output of a radiation output device made in form of a diffraction grating.
