METHOD OF DETERMINING VOLUME OF FUNCTIONAL TISSUE OF THYROID GLAND Russian patent published in 2011 - IPC A61B6/03

Abstract RU 2408269 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to field of medicine, in particular to medical radiology and can be used in endocrinology and oncology. After introduction of radiopharmpreparation "123I-sodium iodide, isotonic solution", planar scintigraphy of thyroid gland and after that monophoton emission computed tomography are carried out, basing on the results of planar scintigraphy total area of thyroid gland is determined, its value is used to determine individual percent of background cutoff from maximal count on images of sections, whose magnitude in case if total area of thyroid gland is less than 12 cm2, constitutes 60%, more than 12 cm2 and less than 25 cm2, - 55%, more than 25 cm2 and less than 30 cm2 -50%, more than 30 cm2 -44%, then taking into account said parametre using data of monophoton emission computed tomography count of number of volume elements in images of organ sections, which have count value higher than set level, and volume of functioning tissue of thyroid gland is determined in metric units - cm3. Method is highly efficient and self-descriptive. Accurate determination of functioning tissue allows to carry out correction of therapeutic dose of radioactive iodine, which later considerably reduces probability of complications development. Moreover, said information is necessary for selection of treatment tactics and volume of surgery.

EFFECT: method allows to estimate quantitatively with high degree of accuracy ability of thyroid gland parenchyma, namely, calculate volume of functioning tissue using individual value of background cutoff percent.
