FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of making catalyst layer for a fuel cell involves sputtering an initial film of a platinum group metal onto the surface of a catalyst base, exposing the film to a beam of accelerated hydrogen atoms or ions in a vacuum, where the said particles have energy needed for selective removal of oxygen atoms from the entire thickness of the sputtered initial oxide and formation of a film of platinum or a platinum group metal with given electrophysical parametres. The projective path length of the accelerated hydrogen atoms or ions in the film of the reduced metal and the dose dependency of change in electrical resistance of the initial oxide film to given values which indicate formation of a metal with given electrophysical parametre values are experimentally predetermined. Based on the obtained relationships, fluence of the accelerated particles is assigned and thickness of the initial film which is not greater than the projective path length in the film of the reduced metal is selected.
EFFECT: simple technology and low platinum consumption.
