FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: procedure consists in formation of ceramic coating with end layer k-Al2O3 or TiN, located on k-Al2O3 layer, or α-Al2O3, or TiN, located on α-Al2O3 layer. Ceramic coating is radiated with electron beam for instant melting at least part of end layer. The cutting tool with multi-layer ceramic coating contains layer of k-Al2O3 and the end layer α-Al2O3, also, layer α-Al2O3 is produced by transformation of part of the layer K-Al2O3 during radiation with electron beam.
EFFECT: reduced surface roughness and reduced resistance to cutting and adhesion to part, which facilitates longer service life of cutting tool.
