FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a coated cutting tool comprising a base and a coating, wherein coating contains inner multilayer α-Al2O3 and outer monolayer α-Al2O3, outer monolayer thickness α-Al2O3 is 1–10 mcm, preferably 3–5 mcm, and thickness of inner multilayer α-Al2O3 is less than or equal to 35 % of the total thickness of the inner multilayer α-Al2O3 and outer monolayer thickness α-Al2O3, and wherein said multilayer α-Al2O3 consists of alternating sublayers α-Al2O3, and TiCO, TiCNO, AlTiCO or AlTiCNO sublayers, wherein said inner multilayer α-Al2O3 contains at least 5 sublayers α-Al2O3, and at least one layer of TiC, TiN, TiAlN or TiCN, located between the base and the inner multilayer α-Al2O3.
EFFECT: this arrangement of layers in coating of cutting tool increases its wear resistance when cutting metals and turning, especially when processing hardened steel.
