FIELD: cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a coated cutting tool comprising a base and a coating, wherein the coating comprises a multilayer system α-Al2O3, consisting of alternating sublayers α-Al2O3 and sublayers of TiCO, TiCNO, AlTiCO or AlTiCNO, said multilayer system α-Al2O3 contains at least 5 sublayers α-Al2O3, total thickness of said multilayer system α-Al2O3 is 1–15 mcm, period of multilayer system α-Al2O3 is 50–900 nm, wherein the coated cutting tool additionally contains a first layer α-Al2O3, located between base and multilayer system α-Al2O3, in direct contact with multilayer system α-Al2O3, wherein thickness of said layer α-Al2O3 is <1 mcm, and multilayer system α-Al2O3 develops an X-ray diffractogram in the range of scanning angles θ-2θ 20°–140°, on which the ratio of the intensity of the diffraction peak is 0012 (peak area), I (0012), to intensities of diffraction peak 113 (peak area), I (113), diffraction peak 116 (peak area), I (116), and diffraction peak 024 (peak area), I (024), is I(0012)/I(113) > 1, I(0012)/I(116) > 1 and I(0012)/I(024) > 1.
EFFECT: proposed highly oriented multilayer system provides both high resistance to crater wear and high resistance to pitting at plastic deformation of cutting edge.
