FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: coating is applied to a substrate. A load is applied to a tear-off element and the stress at which the coating tears away from the substrate is measured. The tear-off element is attached to the substrate by fixers before applying the coating. The coating is then applied such that part of the coating lies on the tear-off element and the other part on the substrate through a calibrated hole in the tear-off element. The fixers are removed. The tear-off element is loaded until the tear-off element tears off or cuts and the adhesion strength between the coating and the substrate determined as the ratio of the maximum load on the tear-off element to the area of the calibrated hole of the tear-off element or to the area of the coated area of the substrate.
EFFECT: possibility of qualitative evaluation of the adhesion strength between a coating and a substrate at cut-off or tear-off.
