FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: procedure consists in blowing final converter slag of preceding melt containing 7-14 % of MgO during 0.5-2.0 min with oxygen at flow rate of 1-3 m3/min-t of steel. Further slag is thickened with additives of magnesia materials with ratio of CaO to MgO not over 0.3 at amount of 1.5-6.3 kg/t of steel. Scull is applied on lining of the converter by blowing slag with nitrogen.
EFFECT: application of scull layer practically on whole surfaces of lining, increased adhesion to refractory surface and raised service life of scull up to 4 melts.
