FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: process includes leaving final slag in the converter, blowing of final slag with nitrogen and addition of flux to the converter before blowing and/or during blowing of the final slag. A mixture of serpentinite and magnesite containing components in the following ratio, wt %: MgO≥40; CaO≤5; SiO2≤40; Fe2O3≤8; Al2O3≤1; H2O≤2, and ignition loss is ≤47%. In this case, more than 80% of flux has fraction composition of 5-70 mm, flux consumption is 4-15 kg/t steel, and the MgO content in the converter slag used for application of skull is 8-20%.
EFFECT: increasing the skull thickness on the converter lining, increasing the resistance of the working layer of the converter lining without intermediate hot repair.
