FIELD: metallurgy, namely steel melting in converter with upper oxygen blast.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of supplying (after termination of oxygen blasting of metal) to converter through upper oxygen lance nitrogen with flow rate 2.6 -6.0 m3/min per ton of melt 1 - 5 min before blasting nitrogen through ferruginous magnesia fluxes including 15 -95% of magnesium oxides and 2 - 15% of iron oxides in 2 - 15 kg/t of melt.
EFFECT: increased thickness of skull layer in upper part of converter lining, improved strength of lining, less loss of yield for steel.
