FIELD: process engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for maintaining optimum conditions of casting strip 1 from steel. Proposed method comprises casting of slab 3 at casting machine 2 at casting rate (v), preset slab thickness (H), rolling slab at, at least, one mill (4, 5) with a row of stands (6, 7) into strip (1) behind the last stand (6, 7) with limit thickness (dE). Timely response to unexpected conditions is ensured by using stage a) of inputting into ACS (8) of functional relationship between casting rate (v) or mass flow (v x h) expressed as the product of casting rate and slab thickness (v x H) or as the product of strip speed and temperature (T) downstream of the last strip rolling stand (7) for different (n) active stands (7) and different ultimate thickness, stage b) of determining or setting casting rate(v) or mass flow (v x H) and direction of set value in ACS (8), stage c) setting optimum number of active rolling stands (7), hence, ultimate thickness, thickness reduction in rolling mill according to date stored at stage a) on functional characteristics in ACS (8), so that at preset casting rate (v) or preset mass flow (v x H) desirable strip temperature (T) behind the last active stand (7) is reached, stage d) of deactivating a number of stands (7) so that active number of stands (7) is that calculated at stage c).
