FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to metallurgy, in particular, to continuous casting of metals. The method includes cooling of the stock surface 3 with a water-air mixture and separation of the secondary cooling zone in longitudinal direction into two sections with length ratio of L1/L2=0.6…0.3 and independent control of cooling agent supply. On the first section with the length L1, arranged under the crystalliser 1, the cooling agent is supplied normally to the stock surface 3 via torch nozzles. At the second section with length L2 the cooling agent is supplied into a gap between the stock 3 and a screen 2 installed to it coaxially along the tangent to the stock surface, and the cooling agent flow is swirled around the longitudinal axis of the stock. The intensity of cooling at the second stage is controlled by variation of underpressure in the gap between the stock 3 and the screen 2, which is provided by medium suction from the gap.
EFFECT: invention provides for reduced coverage of the stock with cracks and axial liquation due to increased evenness of stock cooling.
