FIELD: engines and pumps.

SUBSTANCE: ignition of fuel-and-air mixture (FAM) in internal combustion engines (ICE) is achieved by means of laser optic discharge; for its intensification the laser beam is concentrated on metal surface of engine piston. Device for implementing the method includes laser (4) with optic light guide (5) and with focusing lens (8). Synchronisation unit (2) is connected to power amplifier of laser (4) pumping (3) and to sensor (1) of position of engine distribution shaft. Focusing lens (8) in upper part is connected through light guide (5) to laser (4), and on the side of engine (11) cylinder it has thrust bush (9) to which there attached is an opening from quartz sand, which separates optic system from combustion products in engine (11) cylinder. Laser (4) pumping power amplifier (3) represents a pack of capacitors, which is connected to storage battery.

EFFECT: simpler ignition system owing to using one laser; higher ignition reliability of FAM at high pressures, owing to which economic effectiveness and available use of laser ignition system in ICE is achieved.
