FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of purifying electrolyte of an alkaline fuel cell from carbonates involves use of electric current, as well as feeding pure oxygen into the cathode chamber of the fuel cell and blowing an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen, into the anode chamber, said inert moist with water, at temperature ranging from 20 to 100°C, where voltage lower than the decomposition potential of water is applied across the electrodes when cleaning the chamber. By varying the treatment time, current and voltage, content of carbonates in the alkaline electrolyte can be lowered to the required value, which enables to exclude the step for refilling fuel cell batteries with clean electrolyte.
EFFECT: high efficiency of fuel cell batteries.
