FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: 12-14 day old newborn is examined to calculate a prognostic index D by formula D=A1×0.00153+A2×0.00857+A3×0.04053-12.9658 where A1 is newborn's weight (grams), A2 is 12-14 day old's thrombocyte count, (109 /l), A3 is 12-14 day old's MCV (mean cell volume) (fl or mcm3). If observing D≤0, a long-term course of anaemia until 6 months is shown, while D>0 makes predicting the absence of anaemia by the age of 6 months.
EFFECT: use of the method enables early detection of a risk group of developing secondary anaemia and its long-term course in infants suffering haemolytic disease of newborns with no exchange blood transfusion.
