FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: during manufacture of granulated metallic iron there loaded is mixture of raw materials, which includes material containing iron oxide, carbon-bearing reducing agent and alkali metal compound, to furnace for thermal reduction. Mixture of raw materials is heated and molten and iron oxide is reduced so that metallic iron and slag is obtained as by-product. Coalescence of metallic iron to granules is provided at simultaneous separation of metallic iron from slag. Metallic iron is cooled and hardened. At that, mixture of raw materials includes at least Fe, Ca, Mg, Si and alkali metal as components. Obtained slag includes CaO, MgO, SiO2 and alkali metal oxide. The latter represents at least one oxide chosen from Li2O, Na2O and K2O. Alkali metal oxide meets at least one of the following conditions: Li2O≥0.03%, Na2O≥0.10% and K2O≥0.10%. Basicity of slag is in the range of 1.3 to 2.3.
EFFECT: invention will allow providing high efficiency at manufacture of high-quality granulated metallic iron having low sulphur content.
