FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry and specifically to a method of producing β-ketosulphones of general formula Ia-e and 1,4-diketones lla-g

involving treatment of phenacyl xanthogenates IIIa-g in dimethyl sulphoxide in the presence of iron (II) sulphate in ratio phenacyl xanthogenates IIIa-g to iron (II) sulphate equal to 1:1.1 with 30% hydrogen peroxide for 2 hours at room temperature and then diluting the reaction mass with water. The precipitate is filtered and treated with 1N sodium hydroxide solution to obtain 1,4-diketone IIg. The alkaline solution is filtered, acidified with 30% sulphuric acid to pH=4 to obtain β-ketosulphone Ia-e. β-ketosulphones are used in synthesis of pharmaceutical preparations and as initial reactants in organic synthesis. 1,4-diketones are used in synthesis of different heterocycles.

EFFECT: novel method which enables synthesis of β-ketosulphones and 1,4-diketones in a single step from cheap starting compounds at room temperature without toxic organic reactants.
