FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrometallurgy, namely, to control over liquid metal or slag level at metallurgical plants, in particular, electroslag remelting. Radiation flux is directed from radioactive source onto liquid bath in metal forming zone. Radiation reflected by said zone is used as controlled magnitude. Reflected radiation is controlled on the side of solid angle outer side with its vertex making the source while surface gets in contact with formed workpiece located inside said solid angle. Note here that radiation monitoring point is selected so that difference between magnitudes of reflections by liquid slag and metal workpiece at maximum and minimum positions of liquid bath exceeds the range of background radiation variations at control point. Proposed device comprises radioactive radiation source and, at least, one radiation receiver located outside of solid angle.
EFFECT: higher accuracy of measurements.
