FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a new class of silicone-containing prepolymers with pendant polysiloxane-containing polymer chains. The silicone-containing prepolymers are capable of being photochemically crosslinked to form a silicone-hydrogel material with relatively high oxygen permeability, a reduced elastic modulus and a relatively high ion permeability. The present invention also relates to silicone-hydrogel contact lenses made from this new class of silicone-containing prepolymers and a method of making the silicone-hydrogel contact lenses.
EFFECT: invention enables to make contact lenses with given properties.
