FIELD: transport.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to diagnostics of rolling stock axle box roll surfaces. Proposed method consists in that in defining defect type, isolation of creep against background of other roll surface defects is performed by comparing and isolating maximum acoustic emission signal from several bursts of continuous signals for time equal to axle box period of revolution. Defect size allows defining axle box roll surface conditions.

EFFECT: accelerated and valid control.
