FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: crushed middlings from refractory material is fed into vertical tube arranged in evacuated chamber, said tube being made from carbon-carbon composite. Said tube is preheated by currents to above middlings melting point at the rate selected subject to middlings particle size. Middlings is heated in atmosphere of protective gas in flowing through tube heating zone. Nitrogen represents said protective gas. Tube is heated to 3000°C. Middlings is fed into heated tube via gap with width 4-6 times larger than grip diameter made by two concentric ring elements. Prior to feeding into tube, crushed middlings of refractory material is preheated to temperature making 0.8-0.9 of middling material melting point. Note here that middling preheating may be effected by heating the chute via which middling is fed into tube.
EFFECT: simplified process, power savings.
