FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of searching for and detecting gamma-radiation sources in conditions of non-uniform radiation contamination, involving detection of radiation by multiple detectors lying on the platform of a mobile robot, wherein to determine the amount and location of fragments in the detected radiation contamination using a gamma-imaging device, a superimposed image of the video and gamma-images of the investigated region is obtained, said image containing radiation sources, where the position of each radiating fragment on the gamma-image is marked with a coloured spot, the colour of the spot depending on the activity of the source; the most active radiation source is determined on the gamma-image; an operation is performed to remove said source from the environment; the investigated area is monitored to determine remaining sources and the removal operation is repeated until there are no more sources.
EFFECT: shorter search time, high accuracy of determining coordinates of radiation sources.
