FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: method for searching and detecting gamma-radiation sources under the conditions of nonuniform radioactive contamination additionally contains the stages at which they define the source with most active radiation, measure the radiation power using a collimated detector and simultaneously determine the distance to the source using a detector laser rangefinder, while the axes of the collimated detector and laser rangefinder are directed parallel with a horizontal diversity, record the readings of the laser rangefinder and power dose value, registered by the detector, then based on these data, they calculate the radiation dose of the real source, and then to verify the adequacy of the measured distance to the source of radiation move the targeting axis of the rangefinder is moved by the value of the horizontal diversity. Then they again measure and record the distance, the results of time-shared measurements are compared and when there is a discrepancy in the measurements, the data is considered reliable within the error of the laser rangefinder.
EFFECT: increase of the accuracy of measuring the distance to the source.
