FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: for prediction of graft vs. host disease following penetrating keratoplasty, an excised recipient's cornea is analysed for the presence of human herpes virus-6 (HHV-6) DNA; simultaneously, blood serum is examined for a level of HHV-6 immunoglobulins G (IgG). If observing corneal HHV-6 DNA and the serum IgG level less than 0.3 mcg/l, developing graft vs. host disease is predicted.
EFFECT: well-timed prescription of antiviral drug preparations by an improved postoperative therapeutic management pathway in patients with a high risk of graft rejection.
