FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: detector for detecting electromagnetic radiation with wavelength between about 3 mcm and about 14 mcm has a reflecting substrate (10, 12, 14) and at least one detection element comprising a bolometric membrane (16, 18, 20) sensitive to said radiation and suspended above the substrate (10, 12, 14). The distance between the bolometric membrane, at least one detection element and the substrate is variable. Said distance has a predefined spatial distribution which forms quarter-wave resonators for amplifying said radiation in a first 8-14 mcm wavelength range and minimises relative amplitude of variations of the response of the radiation detector to radiation in a second 3-5 mcm wavelength range without forming a cavity resonator for amplifying said radiation in the second wavelength range.
EFFECT: easier manufacture and availability of a wide useful detection range.
