FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: cutter comprises carbide core extending along rotational axis and ceramic head welded to one end of said core and having teeth regularly spaced about cutter axis and separated by chip flute. Note here that every tooth comprises major, in fact, radial cutting edge formed by intersection of front and rear faces. To decrease forces acting on welded seam, cutter is shaped to truncated cone wherein larger base is located on head side. Note also that cutter taper angle makes 1°-5°. Rear face contour formed by intersection of rear face with plane extending through cutter axis features rounded shape, bent outward, radius of curvature making 5-20 mm and radial face angle making 2°-8°. Note here that said angle is measured in working plane perpendicular to cutter rotational axis and crossing definite points of the tooth major cutting edge. Proposed method comprises using cutting speed of 200-1500 m/min and feed rate per tooth making 0.1-1 mm at cut depth of 0.01-2 mm.
EFFECT: higher efficiency.
