FIELD: radio engineering, communications.

SUBSTANCE: mobile station performs handover from an initial cell of handover controlled by an initial base radio station of handover, into a target cell of handover under control of a target base radio station of handover. At the same time from the initial base radio station of handover verification information is sent to a switching centre, where a counter (NCC) is incremented, and a parameter (NH) is generated for a target cell of handover on its basis, which are transmitted to a target base radio station of handover, where a protection key (KeNB) is generated for the target cell of handover on the basis of the received parameter (NH) of the target cell of handover. Besides, from the target base radio station of handover into a mobile station via the switching centre and the initial base station of handover a signal of a handover command is sent, containing an incremented counter, where a protection key (KeNB) is generated for the target cell of handover on the basis of the incremented counter, a signal of handover completion is sent to the target base radio station of handover using the protection key of the target cell of handover. In the mobile station a cell is selected, and the first cell is found, which differs from the target cell of handover and controlled by the target base station of handover, as the selected cell, in case of unsuccessful completion of handover by the mobile station into the target cell of handover. Then from the mobile station into the target base radio station of handover a signal is sent to request resetting of connection, which contains verification information, in the target base radio station of handover competence of the mobile station is verified by inspection of compliance of verification information received from the mobile station, and verification information previously received from the initial base radio station of handover via the switching centre, and in the mobile station and the target base radio station of handover a protection key (KeNB) is generated for the first cell, when competence is confirmed.

EFFECT: possibility to preserve a protection key KeNB, used when implementing communication between a target base radio station of handover and a mobile station as unknown for an initial base radio station of handover.
