FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of grafting hydrolysable silane groups to polyethylene, involving reaction of polyethylene at temperature higher than 140°C with a saturated silane, having at least one hydrolysable group bonded to Si, in the presence of a compound of agents capable of generating free-radical centres in polyethylene, characterised by that the silane contains an acryloxyalkyl, bis(trialkoxy-silylalkyl)fumarate and/or bis(trialkoxy-silylalkyl)maleate group. Disclosed also is use of said silane in grafting hydrolysable silane groups to polyethylene and a method of cross-linking polyethylene obtained using the disclosed method.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain silane-modified polyethylene with high grafting efficiency, which can be rapidly cross-linked and in which content of volatile organic substances can be reduced considerably.
