FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of obtaining exo-2-norborneole and its derivatives of general formula , which can be applied as components of synthetic aromatic substances, as initial compounds for obtaining bicyclic ketones, as well as medications. Method lies in catalytic hydration of nobornene-2 and its derivatives of formula (where R and X are such as mentioned above) in presence of CCl4 and catalyst, where as such used are chrome-containing compounds, selected from the group: Cr(HCO2)3, CrCl3, Cr(acac)3, with T=75-130°C and molar ratio [catalyst]:[olefin]: [CCl4]: [H2O]=1:100:50÷100:1000÷2500 for 3-7 h.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to obtain target products with high output, using available and cheap reagents.
