FIELD: physics, radio.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radio engineering and is intended for remote determination of the point of damage on high-voltage power lines with a branched tree structure. The method involves determining the distance to the point of damage using a pulse probing method and eliminating the uncertainty of results of probing branched networks by determining a route with a high bit error rate between PLC modems. A central device which combines reflectometer and PLC modem functions is installed at the beginning of the line. Remote devices performing the function of PLC modems are installed at the ends of the power line. There is no need to install special connection equipment since the information signal passes, as a rule, through an existing power transformer. By probing the electric power line, the central device determines the distance to the point of damage. Through PLC data communication, the remote devices determine the bit error rate in packets. Uncertainty in determining a damaged section of an electric power line is eliminated based on a high value of this parameter.
EFFECT: determining the point of damage of an electric power line with any complex tree structure with reliable elimination of uncertainty of determining the damaged section of a line.
