SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to an image forming apparatus for forming an image on a recording material (carrier), which a plurality of cartridges are detachably mounted, and to cartridges. The present group of inventions includes a cartridge which is detachably mounted to an image forming apparatus for forming an image on a recording material, and an image forming apparatus. The image forming apparatus includes: a supporting member (tray) for supporting cartridges, the tray being movable to an external position, a first internal position and a second internal position; a first positioning portion provided in the main assembly for positioning the associated cartridge from cartridges when the tray is located in the first internal position, and a second prevention portion provided in the main assembly for preventing rotation of the associated cartridge around the firs positioning portion; and a second positioning portion provided in the tray for positioning the associated cartridge when the tray is located between the external position and the second internal position. The second positioning portion is in a state where the second positioning portion lies at a distance from the associated cartridge when the tray is located in the first internal position.

EFFECT: providing an image forming apparatus and a cartridge which allow the positioning of the cartridge in the main assembly of the apparatus with high accuracy and at a low cost.
