FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: the method is implemented by concentration of electrical charges at precipitating electrodes that amplifies electric field in the interelectrode space. The electric precipitator (7) includes a body (1) and flat precipitating electrodes (3) with an opening (10) close to the edge, which are connected to high voltage source with alternation of the potential sign, an between them there are columns (4) of dielectric material; the device is featured by uniform distribution of cone- or needle-shaped protrusions (9) at one side of each electrode, where electrical charges are concentrated, at that height of the protrusions should ensure minimum distance between surfaces of neighbouring electrodes at simultaneous non-availability of short-circuiting between them. Thus electrical charges are concentrated at the protrusions, i.e. they are much more in comparison with the flat electrodes, and when liquid or gas passes through the electric precipitator a large number of mechanical impurity particles is charged and precipitated at electrodes.

EFFECT: improving efficiency of electrical precipitation for dielectric liquids and gases by precipitation of mechanical impurity particles at the electrodes.
